The Market On Friday

Good morning. It is 53 degrees and cloudy here in the Upper Hudson Valley. The weather logo is indicating sunshine today and right through Monday when the temperature will be in the 80s. Now that will be different. Thank goodness it's Friday, it's been a hell of a week in the news, talk about miserable. Hopefully some honesty and justice will come out over the death of Freddy Gray. In the meantime lots of angles are being employed to keep the peace in Baltimore. I just read where NBA superstar Carmelo Anthony marched in Baltimore on Thursday. Meanwhile Nepal is in very tough shape, the aid is slowly getting in but the enormity of the task is clearly overwhelming.

At 8:45 a.m. ET futures are moderately higher and the price of oil is down, with oil now trading around $59.50 per barrel. The market is poised to open higher.

The article is mostly focused on first quarter corporate earnings reports. With the DOW presently perched around 17,850, things are fluffy. One might postulate that there is aversion to running the indexes up a lot higher and so right now we are seeing the DOW in the range around 18,000 give or take the momentum of the day. There are a lot of questions out there. For one, there has been the speculation that oil would hit $60 per barrel by the Summer. Well guess what, light crude is already trading at $59.50 so where does the price of oil go now? Enjoy the weekend.

CNN: Stocks: 4 things to know before the open
Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway is reporting after the close. Many of Berkshire's top investments are off to a lousy start this year, raising the possibility that shareholders will voice concerns about performance at the annual meeting in Omaha on Saturday.
