Florence

Guardian UK: 'Monster' storm: Hurricane Florence is a rare threat in an unusual location - Storms of Florence’s scope, with winds of upwards of 130mph, are rare so far north in the US – and its origins are unusual, too

Another east coast monster hurricane with a blocking high north of causing it to turn toward the coast. This feature of Atlantic Hurricanes along the east coast is becoming a increasingly problematic thing. Sandy was an example of this same dynamic although much later in the Hurricane season. Before Sandy the infamous Perfect Storm of the movie and novel in 1991 Halloween was another example that one off of New England and more a Nor'easter then a Hurricane. Florence is a pure Hurricane but its acting in a similar manner as the two previous storms. Why is the BIG ? Some climate scientists believe its because of the slowing jet streams and the slowing Gulf Stream off the East Coast causing blocking highs to linger longer along the East coast this time of year. It's related to the Polar Vortex events that happen in winter also partially caused by these same highs and a slowing Jet stream over the Arctic. Things are changing in the atmosphere now and the changes are getting worse as we go forward and the atmosphere and oceans warm because of too much GHGs. These are the HUGE Canaries in the Coalmine that are warning us that the shit is hitting the fan now not later. Many other changes and threshold's are being breached at the same time and we are NOT dealing with any of them. God help us.

It's interesting, I don't know if you saw the article. North Carolina government officials were so upset by the alarms they were getting about a rising ocean, that they decided to outlaw articles that said this was happening. They didn't want property values along the coast of North Carolina to take a hit, they are protecting real estate values and telling people that such articles are alarmist and fake.
