Survived? Yeah, barely. Good ol' poet laureate Springsteen said in '75:

"They wind up wounded, not even dead"

Cause I'm thinking that as helpful as executive order reversals are, they are band aids that don't address the inherent disease. Maybe it's better to die and rise from the ashes.

"As the author of this article says"...We were saved, in short, by the point spread. This does not reflect well on American democracy..."

The inherent disease, if you'd indulge my analogy, is that we a COKE or Pepsi party system. And as long as we prefer to fight to the death to defend our "choice" of sugared, colored, carbonated water instead of seeking healthier alternatives, then we'll stay diseased.

There was a period when I entertained people's ideas from the Green Party and such and I examined them for a while actually. Long story short - it will never happen in our lifetime. Change in the American political system is designed to be slow. There's really no room for a third party on the national level. We both noticed how absent from the conversation the Green Party and such were this cycle, no Jill Stein mucking it all up. There's ideology and then there's our relative reality. Our relative reality is two parties, both with massive donors, tons of dough, and complete control of the country. If you want to make changes you have to get involved, literally in it somehow. My tiny tiny miniscule part is this blog and the occasional comments I make on the NY Times website that get viewed by a few thousand people. I figure I account for a good .0000001% of the political weight in this country.

Actually there are way way more people that at least visit this blog than comment. You might be surprised. I''m not sure how to get people to comment and dialogue. There are a few hoops to commenting here and I'm very unwilling to get into it with right wing types who just want to be insulting or threatening. In the past I've deleted comments like that. I'm just not willing to be let this become a repository for wackiness and advertisements. They might get through for a while but eventually they get deleted.

I'm not surprised you have many visitors. It's a thoughtful and unique blog, representative of who you are. If it was a repository for wackiness, I'd go elsewhere so I'm glad you keep it this way.
