Reuters: Passion for vodka kills Russian men
Perhaps unsurprisingly, deaths among heavy drinkers were mainly due to alcohol poisoning, accidents, violence and suicide, as well as diseases such as throat and liver cancer, tuberculosis, pneumonia, pancreatitis and liver disease.

They do love their Vodka, but so do Americans. Vodka is the hard alcohol most drank by both populations.

I have recently come to learn from a recovered alcoholic a lot of the details of the disease and the treatments. I have been fortunate in that I never had that demon. Alcoholism is serious stuff and the alcoholics that get above it are very special people. It takes a lot of self knowledge and personal strength to stay sober. Having said that it seems that Russia is in the dark ages about alcoholism.

Its an awful disease, ruins whole families. If there was ever a need for a real cure this is the disease that we need it for.
