The Market On Friday

Good morning. It is 32 degrees with lots of clouds a little blue sky here in the Upper Hudson Valley. Sunshine is expected and the logo has us into the 50s on Sunday. We'll see about that. I hope your New Year's went well, here we are in 2015 with a year ahead that will no doubt bring with it a wild mix of humanity's highs and unfortunately, its lows. Mario Cuomo the former governor of New York and often thought to be Presidential material has passed away. He was interviewed locally often when he was governor and I have the cadence and tone of his voice permanently etched into my gray matter. I got off to a bad start with Cuomo when he cut the budgeting for a program that I had just gotten hired to be part of. This is back in 1983 or so. At the time my daughter had just been born and I was somewhat dismayed knowing that I no longer had employment. Our condolences go out to his family.

At 8:35 a.m. futures are moderately higher and the price of oil per barrel is down. The market is poised to open higher and energy stocks will go into the red.

I can't say it enough but it is the ongoing sinking price of oil that will confound and is presently confounding the world's economy. 2015 just like every year will have its jaw dropping economic movements and the price of oil is at the top of the list.
