Oligarchy

I think we already know this at least on some level.

TPM: Princeton Study: U.S. No Longer An Actual Democracy
...over the past few decades America's political system has slowly transformed from a democracy into an oligarchy, where wealthy elites wield most power.

America was a Republic up till Dec. 12 2000 ( Gore vs. BV$H2 ) , but is now an Imperial Plutocracy with an Elected Emperor. We are an Oligarchic Corpocracy with some voting rights. From day one we were never some kind of pure Democracy not even close. The Senate is a prime example of just how undemocratic we really are. Delaware and Rhode Island have 2 Senators so does Calif and NY with 20X the populations. Rural States have far more power then they should have if America was democratic in any real sense of that word. The truth is the founders were to a man all relatively wealthy white male land owners half of whom owned slaves. Its this kind of arrangement elements of the GOP are actively striving to return to ASAP.

The evidence is abundant. Also we have the additional present caveat of the right working assiduously to remove the right to vote and any attempts at democratic worker based power as in unions. As you say with 2 senators per state regardless of population and now we also have the congressional redistricting to insure partisan wins. I also believe as you do that the last two decades have been the nail in the coffin. Bush's faux election, essentially a GOP coup d'etat, virtually democracy free.
