He made his bed and must push into the wind. Like the Chicago 7, Cassidy will be forever one of the Senate 7 voting to convict the convict. History will either ostracize or elevate. We can at least hope for a TV movie of the week.
I think Trump fades, he's loses popularity each and every day. Plus he will be facing all kinds of legal issues.
I think you're right, it's only a matter of time. Hopefully in our lifetime.
But it's not about "him". It's us. It's the ...ISM that he exploited that is in high relief. Our worst selves are celebrated and shows no sign of fading.

He's NOT the usual candidate or pol. He's got a very dedicated Kult of Personality that he runs as a scam and these folks are fanatical in their allegiance to this creature. He could very well be the candidate in 4 yrs. I wouldn't assume anything about this guy. The truth is WE the people got him out NOT the Dems. they never laid a glove on him. I highly doubt they will even now. People have been trying to put him in jail for decades and he's like a greased PIG.
