Sadly, many people are going to get vaccinated and think they are liberated from the virus and they're going to demask period. Until enough Community transmission has been crushed that's NOT a good idea. Studies are underway by the CDC to determine if vaccinated people can become infected and become asymptomatic spreaders but the results are 6 mos. away before we know one way or another. In the meantime the CDC is highly recommending the fully vaccinated wear masks going into stores and in crowds of people even outside. The variants are at issue here as well. There just isn't enough data yet to know just how effective these first vaccines are against all the variants. Our defenses (Vaccines and masks etc.) and weapons ( treatments ( drugs) and techniques & machines against the virus are evolving but so is the virus to try and get around them. It's a WAR and right now it's a bit of a stand-off with neither side totally winning this. My guess is we have years ahead to get this disease in the rear-view. It's more likely it will become another endemic disease we as a species will have to learn to live with.
My understanding is that the vaccine does not prevent people from getting Covid, but it prevents prevents from getting the worst case of it. It's keeping us from dying from it. So yes, still wear masks, still be smart.
