Things are different? Nothing is different except for the alignment of Democratic control in this moment to do the right thing. But doing the right thing will continue to take a back seat to most elected officials self interest in maintaining their personal power.

I hate being pessimistic, but with no filibuster-proof majority, with Joe Manchin & Lauren Boebert having oversized influence, it's just too big a hill.

I suspect we can't give in to assuming we are defeated. The GOP tends to change when something directly affects them. Look what they're doing in Georgia with elections. It's hard to imagine shootings all of a sudden going away, if anything, they will probably be even more common, unfortunately, given how many guns are in the country and given that access is as easy as 1, 2, 3.
