Harry Belafonte Dies

I went to high school in Ossining New York. During the late 60s there was a lot of racial fighting going on in the high school. One day it really escalated and we all left school and went home, there was fighting in the hallways, it got really ugly. A few days later when things simmered down, Harry Belafonte came to the school and walked around meeting people and talking to everyone. We were star struck and amazed. He was like a messenger of peace, it was huge. I'll never forget that.

You were lucky to meet the man.

His voice grabbed hold of me as much as John Lennon in 1965.
