Could it be that this "distinct asymmetry" is shaped by a lasting "paradigm of white innocence"?*

*I am guilty of this. I hold onto the belief that we're more the same than different, more good than evil.

That is a good point. Unfortunately we are complex beings and it is our conceptual thinking and feeling that catches our commitments.
