Global Warming - Insurance Industry Versus The GOP

Fascinating article because what we have here is basically a schism in the GOP. On one hand you've got conservative insurance execs wanting some changes in housing insurance protocols because they are paying out billions from severe weather disasters due to climate change and then on the other hand you have the basic GOP deniers in elected government positions fundamentally opposed to reality. This is promising. When big business gets into the act, then we've got something, the deniers will then have no place for refuge other than big oil. Okay that is still refuge but the only refuge.

It's very true that many of the big Ins. companies are getting hammered by climate change and are starting to connect the dots to whose responsible. Too little way too late. Remember these three nos. and then meditate on what they mean for our kids. 180-280 ppm and 400 ppm. The 1st two are the average range of CO2 in the air for the last 4 mil. yrs. The 400 ppm is where it's at today and it's rising at about 2 ppm per yr.

There's no stopping it now, we are into global warming and even if carbon emissions were halted, it still take 100 years for CO2 to leave the atmosphere as we know. I suspect that what insurance companies will do will simply turn more of the problem back on the public - higher deductibles, higher thresholds, more stringent payouts etc etc etc, a new generation of misery adjusters schooled in not assuming responsibility. There's plenty of irritation to spread around.
