As we are not doing nearly enough to curb CO2, we expect to see this number rise higher and higher. I don't have words that can express the loss that this represents. We are threatening our survival.

It's now rising at a rate of 2 ppm a yr. and the rate is increasing not decreasing as is needed. Why? Because, politicians are whores these days and care little or nothing about the future. The last time CO2 was at these levels was 5 mil. yrs. ago. during the Pliocene thermal max. Back then before the 6 recent Ice ages, global temps were 5C-7C higher than today or approx 9F - 12.5F. The ice sheets on Greenland and Antarctica were less than half of what they are today and sea level was over 130 ft.+ higher. Most of North America was a tropical swamp or a huge desert. Part of the lower midwest was a huge inland sea and swamp. Almost all of the east seaboard east of Philadelphia was under water. This is the earth were rapidly heading back towards at flank speed. It is not a place our great grands are going to enjoy, sadly it's all but baked into the climate cake going forward. It is the end of a time of climate stability ( the last 5K yrs.) and an ocean that stays in one place for the most part. Rapid asymmetric sea rise will now return and once again become the norm, as it was for thousands of yrs, prior to the last 6 K yrs. The climate will have violent swings as we transition to this new climate state. Once there it will last tens or thousands of yrs., unless we can remove the extra carbon and somehow cool the oceans. We are transiting the tipping pt. as I write this.
I think we are going to see an extremely hot summer. There's no going back now. That CO2 hangs around for 100 years, you and I and everybody will see it get hotter and hotter for the rest of our years until people figure out that they have to stop pumping out the CO2 then they still have to wait for a Century to pass. By then who know if the mechanisms would even revert back.
