Krugman, Stiglitz, Reich, Chomsky and a few other left academics are all living near the edge of the bubble , but lets all not forget they still ( at least for the moment anyway,) are inside the bubble. They are being allowed to bitch and moan so as to give some legitimacy to the "faux democracy" we now have. I'm sure the Roman Imperial regimes and other authoritarian and even a few totalitarian regimes have had their pet "outsiders" as well for similar reasons. The time though for this kind of dissent is IMO coming to an end pretty soon. All we need to push us into a "hard edged" Police/Nat'l Security State is another 9/11 type attack. Even though it will by its very occurrence, be proof these kinds of measures don't work, no matter that's what we can expect.
Yes, there is this fear that another 9/11 will allow the authoritarians to remove the last specks of democracy.
