103,000

It is being reported that 103,000 jobs were added in December. 150,000 was the desired number.

If you read the article by Frances Fox Piven that I posted below, you will see that the economy needs to add 300,000 jobs per month over several years in order to bring the unemployment rate down to 5%. Millions upon millions of people are out of work. Many have stopped the search completely and many are underemployed.

Honestly, if your over 60 looking for an actual job is largely a waste of your time. Your best bet for finding any employment is to ask friends and family because strangers are not interested in out of work old people. The other option is if you have some money start up a business but in a deep small business Depression like this one it had better be Facebook 2 or Google because competing against Wal-mart isn't a pretty situation either. Beyond that learn Spanish and you might if your lucky get some day labor work maybe if you have a good back and heart.

I have a few friends in this over 60 exact position. Its heartbreaking to hear them. We just have to figure it out and get a toe in there somewhere.
