Good morning. It is 46 degrees and rainy here in the Upper Hudson Valley, the forecast predicts a rainy day with temperatures in the 50s this afternoon.

At 9:20 a.m. ET futures are moderately higher and the price of oil per barrel is significantly higher, well above Tuesday's closing price. The market is poised to open moderately higher.

This morning there is big optimism that the Saudis are willing to strike a deal to limit oil production. Is this real or is it just another head fake. Just a few days ago we were reading that oil was set to crash in price again. Today is has ballooned in price from $45 a barrel to near $49 at the moment. That is a significant change, a $4 rise happens rarely, rarely in recent years. So take it for what it's worth.

The Market On Tuesday

Good morning. It is 46 degrees and cloudy here in the Upper Hudson Valley, the forecast predicts a rainy day with temperatures in the 50s this afternoon. It's interesting several of my friends are not in the least bit interested in watching the news on TV or reading newspapers and such. They are still fed up/depressed with the results of the election. Out of sight, out of mind perhaps, except that the decisions our new president is making will most definitely affect our lives. I've been taking a much lighter touch as well. We're still searching for a little silver lining.

At 9:30 a.m. ET futures are slightly higher and the price of oil per barrel is down. The maker is poised to open slightly higher.

The thought is that the post election day boom is over and now we are facing an erratic market until it what exactly Trump is going to do becomes clearer. Good luck with that.

The Market On Thursday

Good morning. It is 48 degrees and sunny here in the Upper Hudson Valley, the forecast predicts a sunny day with temperatures in the mid 50s this afternoon. I'm thinking part of how the next four years might go is that Trump makes good on his promise to revive the Rust Belt, with a push to increase infrastructure spending in those areas. It's the new Deal hits the Rust Belt. The bill for that will be on you. Simultaneously tax cuts along with government spending means that the deficit soars which is always a great opportunity to cut tattered, invisible, social spending always a GOP favorite.

We've all been so intimately engaged in the election, and with the Trump victory, we are trying to adjust. Personally I've had only a minor interest in reading the news and watching TV. I'm completely disinterested in checking Five Thirty Eight and understanding the subtle differences in the voting patterns that gave Trump the presidency. One simple fact of reality dominates all of the nuance, Trump is the president elect. This reminds me of a medical verdict, one has to bring one's attention back over and over to a conclusion we might not want to accept.

I'm starting to feel a sense of determination arise. The call from California's Governor Brown was interesting. People are not willing to give up on the social policies that the country enjoys. People are stocking up as it were and are ready to fight against regressive policy. It's a put your money where your mouth is period.

The weekend is here. Get away from the computer. Invest in your own well being. Exercise, rest, eat especially well and stay away from the body and mind junk. De-stress intelligently. Rejuvenate yourself and if you don't know how, then it's time to find out. It's going to be a very strange four years.

At 8:00 a.m. ET futures are moderately lower, and the price of oil per barrel is down. The market is poised to open moderately lower.

Wall Street responded favorably to Trump's victory on Wednesday and Thursday. On Tuesday night when it became clear that Trump would win, pre-market trading fell through the floor. However Wednesday turned out to be a major boost in all the indexes. Already, the enthusiasm for Trump on Wall Street is waning. Remember, Brexit has not helped the British economy.

I'm sorry to say this but I think the country is going to experience four solid years of social unrest and protest. Already there are major protests in major cities surrounding a Trump victory. This happened last night in NYC with the march ending at Trump Tower. With Guiliani and Christie in roles like Attorney General and such, one might suspect the police and FBI will be given carte blanche freedom to react to the protests. I won't spell out the results, as we have seen this before. So, we go down and we go up. Half the population will support Trump and some will even get in on the action, White supremacists, militias, these people. Half will resist. The ground for this scenario is already there.

Lion's Roar: Don’t Bite the Hook: Five things to remember post-election by Susan Piver
5. Finally, this: feel what you feel. As best you can, don’t pretend you aren’t scared, sad, angry, and shocked. No problem.

Afternoon Thoughts

Walk, take long walks, keep moving. Movement is really good to help with depressing thoughts and overwhelming thoughts. Meditation is good if that's your thing. Yoga is good as it is about being aware of the body.

I've been at this blog assiduously for many years and this last stretch with the election was consuming. I'm not going to quit the blog, but I need a rest. We need resolve, resolve is probably always there, it's just that it gets buried over. My resolve is a little buried over right now. I have no interest in the TV or in the articles. There's really just one conclusion, Trump is the president elect. That's called reality.

Talk with your friends, it's helpful.

Take Time

Anyone who was a supporter of Clinton needs to take some time and work through this election result. I just went for a decent walk and it was helpful. Had a few friends to commiserate with and talk it through.

The World Shifts To The Right

It's really a shocking and stunning surprise, we are left to process this election, make sense out of the country, and our place in the country.

Donald Trump is the next president of the United States. In addition, the Democrats failed to shift the Senate and the Congress remains red. The GOP controls all three major branches of government, the country is red.

Polling outfits failed in all ways, and future polls will be viewed with great suspicion.

As I type, the DOW is down over 300 points, slightly better than the levels it approached last night. At one point the DOW was down roughly 700 points. So let's just say this presidency is starting off with a bang. Who knows how it ends today and over the next period.

Global warming is already here, and the efforts to reduce CO2 emissions were indeed minor. That little bit of effort will be off the table as a Trump presidency is about a return to oil, coal, and gas. Let's not forget that the new president believes global warming is a hoax.

We wonder how the USA will change. I'm not making any predictions right now. Take a step back, process the results as best as you can.

Tuesday, November 08, 2016

We will have a new president - President Trump. How about that.

What can we say, the election is shifting towards Trump. As I'm writing, Clinton still has a chance but it's definitely tougher and tighter. The Market On Friday

Good morning. It is 48 degrees and it is sunny here in the Upper Hudson Valley, the forecast predicts a sunny day with temperatures in the 50s this afternoon. The presidential race is tightening again yet Clinton still holds the superior position. Can she hold on for the next three days, this is the question. We suspect yes, she can hold on. Lots of things to parse this morning and I'm looking forward to the new Newsweek article on Trump's mischievous activity in Russia.

At 9:15 a.m. ET futures are flat and the price of oil per barrel continues to dip. The market is poised to open in the flat area.

The monthly jobs report came out earlier and showed that in October the US gained 161,000 new jobs and that the unemployment rate is now at 4.9%. Notice that investors will once again be looking to the Fed for clues about a base interest rate hike. This big question continues to linger.

The Market On Thursday

Good morning. It is 52 degrees and cloudy here in the Upper Hudson Valley, the forecast predicts rain and temperatures in the high 50s this afternoon. Hey, the Cubs won the World Series. I was watching the game up through the first half of the tenth inning, then I packed it in because it was getting too late. But, how about those Cubs. It's been what, a century since they got the World Series win. It's been an excellent diversion from you know what.

At 9:15 a.m. ET futures are modestly higher and the price of oil per barrel is up . The market is poised to open moderately higher.

As we know market has been on a bit of a losing streak for about a week. Investors are jumpy as they learn that the election is tightening. Hillary Clinton is the favored candidate of Wall Street as it is perceived that her presidency would not really change the Wall Street status quo. Notice that the Fed did not change the base interest rate but suggested that the rate would be increased in time. Notice also that the Brexit is coming under fire in England, it's might not happen after all. That, would be good.
