So much for the deal The Communist made that democracy in Hong Kong would be respected after the Brits handed it back. You can't make deals with these people on certain things and politics is one of those things. The Chinese are great at honoring their business contracts, not so much their political contracts.

We've been so focused on our own fate as it were, that meanwhile and unfortunately, democracy is losing ground in other places. Trump represents a similar wiping out of any remnants of democracy here. The way Trump has viciously gone after American institutions - the press, elections, the military, US intelligence, the economy, and even our sense of human decency, in my mind, he belongs in jail.
