The Market On Monday

Good morning. It is 69 degrees and hazy cloudy here in the Upper Hudson Valley. The forecast has it being a hot day with the temperature up in the high 80s with plenty of humidity. Looks like we are in for a very hot humid week. I hope you had a good weekend, mine was excellent. I got to a lot of house chores over the weekend including getting a new light up by the driveway, a yard/driveway light. The old one rusted out and I finally got a new one together, made it myself with pressure treated wood, pine, and an old copper light that came off the house when we bought the place and did some immediate upgrades.

At 8:40 a.m. ET futures are significantly lower and the price of oil is down now below $45 a barrel. The market is poised to tank at the opening bell.

Chinese stocks are once again floundering. Add into that the great concern over the eventual hike to the base interest rate and bam, the indexes are down. On Friday the federal government will release its figures on employment creation in the month of August, good numbers will speed up the rate hike, bad ones might postpone the hike a bit. This rate hike fear has been going on for years now, can we get over it already. It's been nice being able to finance stuff with 0% interest over 3 years and such but let's move on.

CNN: Six things to know before the open
Chinese stocks fell again Monday, after a wild ride last week, although the losses were relatively modest.

Speculation about when the Fed will raise interest rates is growing. The focus will be on Friday's crucial jobs report.

Oil Facts

According to the link below, the world consumes approximately 3,906,000,000 gallons of oil per day.

IEA: Oil

Oil

The article is written for the oil company investor which by my guess would be almost anyone with equities, 401K's, pensions, a bank account, and virtually any one thing related to money - in other words, everyone. However from the point of view of CO2 emissions, global warming, and baking in an even greater PPM that exceeds 400, this is disastrous news. Clearly nothing is underway to curtail oil usage with consumption expected to increase by 1.4 million barrels a day in the next year.

Bloomberg: For OPEC, This Year's Painful Oil Slump Will Bring Gains in 2016

The Market On Friday

Good morning. It is 63 degrees and sunny here in the Upper Hudson Valley, we are in for another perfect Summer day. Somebody must have waved the magic wand as the temperatures have been perfect for this human. I was watching some MSNBC last night as they recapped one of the many horrid failures of the Bush 2 administration in its non involvement in Katrina. As you know Obama was in New Orleans giving a speech on the 10th anniversary of the natural disaster. Did you happen to see the statement by 'Brownie' where he repeats the favorite GOP mantra - he says stop blaming me, people need to not rely on the government to save them from disasters. Idiot.

I hope you were buckled in because it has been a wild ride on the market this week, and it's not quite over yet.   It's happy day is here again or who knows, happy morning is here again. Investors are very thrilled to hear a Fed official comment that the case was not compelling to raise interest rates in September. Throw into the mix better than expected GDP numbers for the second quarter, a lowering of interest rates in China, and a weekly first time layoff number of 271,000 and how different the day is appearing overall. Recall that just a few days ago on Tuesday, the DOW dropped 1,000+ points as it opened. The Market On Wednesday

Good morning. It is 66 degrees and sunny here in the Upper Hudson Valley. We are in for a glorious day, not too hot. Unfortunately there are only a few weeks of Summer left so get out there and soak it up. The big deal from last night was of course, another Trump sign. The Donald as you know kicked out a reporter from Univision who was defiantly asking a question in a conference although he was not called on by Trump. It was the ejection heard round the world. What I'm getting here with the Trump triumph is that there is a block of GOP voters who have come around to the fact that their party is useless. Unfortunately rather that looking beyond their tender little noses they are going after the renegade GOPer in Trump who is about as helpful as a car crash. Right now I actually hope he goes all the way and breaks down the establishment GOP political base. The GOP has invested itself in the echo chamber of nonsense and distortions long enough. One can dream. So we are in a double bind, we are happy to see the GOP implode and simultaneously Trump as it's leader pro tempore is possibly more scary than Bush 3.

At 8:50 a.m. ET futures are significantly higher and the price of oil per barrel is up. The market is poised to open higher.

I bet they're interested in finding this money by taxing corporate America and billionaires - ya think?   Good morning. It is 67 degrees and cloudy here in the Upper Hudson Valley. We got some serious rain through the night and everything is still quite damp. The humidity has tapered off, it's all good as the rain has perked up all the greenery. The forecast is saying we see the sun today.

At 9:00 a.m. ET futures are moderately lower and the price of oil per barrel is down. The market is poised to open lower.

Well what can we say, the misery continues. I could essentially copy and paste the same thing I wrote yesterday, today. China's equities market is in upheaval and there is a global oil glut which is sending the price of oil per barrel lower and lower and lower. I do know this, at some point this China/oil situation will truly find a bottom and at that point there will be a reversal. We are seeing articles now that point to oil dropping below $15 per barrel. All I can say is at that point expect to see a lot of economic suffering going on throughout the world especially in countries where oil is the main export. There is a big shake out going on, and it's not over.

Obesity Breakthrough

Science Daily: Obesity breakthrough: Metabolic master switch prompts fat cells to store or burn fat
summary - Obesity is one of the biggest public health challenges of the 21st century. Affecting more than 500 million people worldwide, obesity costs at least $200 billion each year in the United States alone, and contributes to potentially fatal disorders such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and cancer. Scientists have now revealed the mechanism underlying the genomic region most strongly associated with obesity. The findings uncover a genetic circuit that controls whether our bodies burn or store fat. Manipulating that genetic circuit may offer a new approach for obesity treatments.

The Market On Thursday

Good morning. It is 77 degrees and sunny here in the Upper Hudson Valley. We are into the golden days of August, the bugs are humming up a storm, it's humid and hot, and the fresh food is outstanding. We have a conflict once again arising in the Koreas. That hot spot like many we can think of around the globe, will seemingly never find a resolution, not in our lifetime.

At 8:40 a.m. ET futures are significantly lower and the price of oil per barrel is down yet again. The market will tank at the opening bell.

We have a confluence of strong global issues, all related, that are pounding equities as of late. Primarily it is China's economic upheaval and the related oil glut. Recall that oil still forms a central hub for the equities market. I believe we see this present confluence continue for the rest of this year and then some. What is not causing a global meltdown is the US economy is presently in a better stable place. One must presume that there is a trail of hurting bodies as a result of this all around the globe.

CNN: Stocks: 5 things to know before the open
Crude prices are under pressure, losing 0.7% to hover just below $41 a barrel, after plunging to a six-year low on Wednesday. Oil has been falling in recent weeks as the supply glut worsens and demand remains sluggish. Weak oil is ringing alarm bells for investors about the health of the global economy.

The Market On Wednesday

Good morning. It is 77 degrees and hazy sunny here in the Upper Hudson Valley. We could be in for another seriously hot humid day, maybe just a little bit less hot than Tuesday. We see that Trump is still big in the news and his polling numbers continue to rise. This poor country, how people could actually think he could somehow improve their lot baffles me. How did this happen? You have a billionaire celebrity with no political acumen or experience or even any startling defined realistic policy getting by on bravado, insults, and celebrity status to engage people in the notion that he is fit to be president. That is very depressing, it is sad.

At 8:50 a.m. ET futures are moderately lower and the price of oil per barrel is down. The market is poised to open lower.

There are a series of defining points in the global economy at this moment that are reoccurring and driving markets. Among them are the turbulence in the Chinese economy, Greece's ongoing debt salvation deal, and the devaluation of commodities especially oil as an oil glut remains and oil demand in China appears to be waning. I think we are going to see these things reappear every day for the next, who know, months or years even. Meanwhile US corporate activity is still perceived to be relatively strong. There is a push and pull situation going on across these dynamics.

Arctic Oil Drilling

So one has to wonder, WTF. Right now there is an oil glut, the globe is overflowing with oil which is now priced close to $40 a barrel. That is outrageous in many ways. In addition we have China, possibly the world's largest manufacturer of commodities (junk) in a tailspin economically. So why do we need to drill for more oil right now? Why is this happening? We need some answers, this is bullshit. In addition let's not forget about the trillion pound elephant in the room; that would be global warming most of which is already embedded, or if you prefer, baked into the system meaning it is not reversible. This is just plain old greed and stupidity, and in this case greed is 'Trump'-ing stupidity.

You know, the election is 15 months away, don't get too attached to anything you read right now. When all is said and done I still expect to see an establishment GOP candidate on the ticket. Let us recall though that the GOP has established the precedent of choosing a candidate with virtually no qualifications for the office. They did pick Sarah Palin...

Good morning. It is 74 degrees and it's just starting to get sunny here in the Upper Hudson Valley. It looks like we are in for a very hot muggy day with the temperature in the 90s. I hope you had a good weekend. I did, I got in a lot of resting and recharging. We see that Trump is flying in the polls as the establishment candidates are falling. The people in the know believe that it is way too early to pick winners. How do you feel about a Trump, Carson presidency? Could you handle eight years of that. However as the election in November of 2016 gets a lot closer, electability becomes very important and that is when the candidates are weeded out. I am fond of what Bernie Sanders is saying, I just don't think he can win. I have no faith, but I would be happy to be proven wrong. Trump on the other hand could very well win because in this field of extreme GOP candidates he comes off as a moderate! Think about it, only Trump has come to the defense of Planned Parenthood minus abortions. Planned Parenthood support is anathema to conservatives. On the other hand it could be that the GOP has moved so far to the right that even a birther like Trump is too far to the left!
