Technique wise what's not to love about this excellent painter. I have one reservation though. The people and the landscape all seem to blend together in a way where oddly the people seem to disappear as distinct objects set against the background. Maybe, that's on purpose, I don't know? It just seems odd to me for some reason.

I think he's regarded as an Italian Impressionist, I'm not positive. If I think about someone like Serat and apply your observation it would hold true there as well. It could be that the focus of the school was less about bringing out the human character and more about notions of painting. It could be they were more objective scientific artists in a way rather than subjective artists. It is a very good point.
