The GOP made its own personal pact with the Devil back when Richard Nixon ran for Pres. using his so called "Southern Strategy." Reagan followed this same blueprint when he ran the first time. The party 's heart of darkness is racism. Once this ugly situation was reversed and Southern Dems. were a big part of the old Dem. coalition. That started to tear asunder under Pres. Roosevelt and Pres. Truman and reached a parting of the ways under Pres. Johnson in the late 60's when Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1965. Ever since the South has been in the GOP column with a few exceptions along the way. Carter and Clinton both garner a few Southern States when they ran.

It's the 50 ton elephant in the room that should be talked about openly all the time. This is ridiculous. We all know the red states-blue states and who is there and why they vote that way. It's still after all this time and it's unbelievable to me that we actually talk about democracy and politics in the USA when this crude and stupid structure is in place and not acknowledged constantly. The GOP is dead in the water without it's racists, dead in the water without it's gun nuts, dead in the water without the Civil War.

Funny, because my GOP friends pt. at the D's and say just the opposite. They claim the D coalition is dead without blacks, losers ( the poor), white Libtards and Mexicans. They say that none of these people should even be allowed to vote and that they ( Republicans) represent the real America ( Christian white people with jobs.) In their view, white liberals are traitors to this "real America."I think if you boil it down this is essentially the narrative that people on the right believe. Within that narrative are lots of people like Roof and worse.
