The Koch Bros. and others will NEVER allow Americans in large nos. to go offline. They now want to charge folks who do this claiming they are "freeloaders" on the transmission system. Does this sound familiar? It should because its this same compliant that created Obamacare. The BIG Health monopolies complained all those deadbeats showing up for FREE care at the ER needed to be forced to buy into their shitty products. The monoploy electric grid providers want to do something similar to anyone who dares to put solar panels on their roof their by they claim robbing them, because these small producers don't have to pay for the transmission lines. Of course this is nonsense on so many levels. First off those so called small producers have been paying in the rate all their lives to build those lines. Also, every solar panel and every wind turbine put into production makes it less expensive for the Power utility because they don't have to build another enormously expensive power plant. So, its total horseshit. What you have are the Fossil fuel Barons forcing this issue because if Solar , Wind, Geo-thermal and other forms of sustainable renewable energy are successful, they'll be slowly put out of business not the Electrical utilities. What they want is MONOPOLY and they want the Pols to deliver it to them on a paid for silver platter.

The scenario you are describing is taking place. This is primarily in the Red states though. I think that although there will be similar resistance in progressive states, that you have a better chance of putting solar panels on your house and not facing penalties in Blue states. I see it in my own neighborhood where it's catching on. I want it for my house but I have two trees that need to come down first.
