The Market On Thursday

Good morning. It is 62 degrees and sunny here in the Upper Hudson Valley. The weather logos are indicating that we are in for a couple of clear sunny days, rain in not expected. It was literally raining cats and dogs here on Wednesday in the early evening. I seriously thought that at one point the rain was coming down not in drops but as one solid sheet of water. It was a soaker. We are witnessing another horrible mass shooting this time down in Houston and yes children were tragically shot to death in this one. Are we becoming emotionally immune to these monstrous events? I mean seriously, what do you do? There's nothing out there that gives us any reason to think that it's going to stop. America is a good place but we are now also the land of the mass shooting.

At 7:10 a.m. ET futures are significantly lower and the price of oil per barrel is down. Unless something miraculous happens, the market is poised to tank at the opening bell.

So much for Alcoa's decent return on late Tuesday, today it's about the economic recovery in Europe or should we say the lack there of. It's a wreck and the best advice is to chalk the day up as a write off unless that surprise ameliorating factor rears its head later today. Time to go back to sleep...
