Whose surprised? Now that everyone with a brain knows AGW is happening the Fossil Energy barons are going to try and get every last dime out of their reserves before the hammer comes down on them. So, although it seems counter intuitive that they'd make things worse by increasing not decreasing the amount of carbon they're pumping out its not. They can use their bundles of money as insulation when we start getting an 8 degree C. change in temperature. It's cold cash.

LOL , yea cold cash indeed. They're going to need a lot of it to keep themselves calm , cool and collected as they say. I still see great domed or underground cities up ahead as things go really sour. The elites will live in AC/heat/ pollution controlled areas domed in and secure with the new types of weapons they've developed for crowd and perimeter control. ( heat beams and sound weapons among others.) The rest of us , the few that are hardy enough to live in the withering heat and degrading environment on the outside will struggle to make it day to day. The inhabitants of the domed cities will hunt these people for sport. The real split will come when science develops genetic and other life extending moralities /devices that will split off the .01 % from the rest of us and turn them to some degree into a new species or an enhanced version of Homo Saipen called Homo Saipen Superiors. Nietzsche's Supermen might not be that far off. I believe the split is already underway. The drive toward radical inequality is a symptom of the movement in that direction. Once we are considered sub-human by these people anything and everything becomes possible , look at how we treat lab animals and farm animals. Look at how the Nazis treated those they thought as lessor then them.
