The Market On Friday

Good morning and welcome to the first weekend of 2013. It is 23 degrees and cloudy here in Upstate NY. That 23 degrees feels almost balmy compared to the bitter cold day that we experienced on Thursday. When it's that cold going outside almost becomes a scary adventure, it's not something you want to get caught in. January is the coldest month and in past years we have had many days in a row where the temperatures stay below zero. We do not have that in the forecast in fact there is a slight warming trend expected with temperatures in the 40s next week. Winters are not the same, and we all know why. Once February comes around the quality of the winter changes considerably because the sun is noticeably higher in the sky with tiny glimpses of spring here and there. It's coming.

At 8:00 a.m. DOW futures are slightly lower and the price of oil per barrel is lower. The market is poised to open lower except...

At 8:30 a.m. the government releases data on employment gains and losses in December. Needless to say this is a big deal and a good report could change the direction of the market.

CNN: Stocks wait for jobs report
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics will release its labor market report at 8:30 a.m. ET.

(reports on) factory orders and ISM data.
