The Market On Tuesday

Good morning. It is 39 degrees and raining here in Upstate NY. We all experience tragedy differently. I am reading that students from Sandy Hook are already heading back to school into different districts. This is a mere four days later. We know that many are experiencing trauma from being in the same place where this tragedy unfolded. They heard shots, they heard screams, they saw the emergency and the attention, they knew these children who were brutally murdered. That's a lot to process. Let's face it we are still processing it and we only experience it through articles and photos. Perhaps someone who reads this has a direct connection to some person or aspect of that incident. When I go through the process of understanding this type of tragedy, right away the tangential things that seemingly make my life difficult go out the window and I try to go to what is truly important, what is really the most important thing. This is why I am a big booster of Obama's speech from Sunday evening. He said it about as clearly as it can be said. All the nonsense from people on the wing nut side of things have no importance. We don't even need to waste our time hearing about how we need more guns in schools and more Christianity in public schools. That stuff is tangential and unimportant. It's actually just sad as these people must be truly suffering in their own unique way. What is important is this - it's all about love. That's about all I can say. That's all we need to focus on, it's love for each other and ourselves

At 8:15 a.m. futures are moderately higher, the price of oil is up per barrel, and the dollar is mostly down against major world currencies. The market is poised to open higher.

Investors are pleased to see that some type of compromise is beginning to come through surrounding the fiscal cliff. In general it's an optimism fiscal cliff morning and at least the market will open slightly stronger. How it will end this afternoon is still unpredictable.
