Camden

We are already aware of Camden being one of the most violent and crime riddled cities in the US. And we also know that it is losing half its police force to close a budget gap.

What remains unknown is speculation, the jokes on late night TV, the keen interest of social scientists, and the reactions and fear level of the law abiding Camden citizens.

Would you want to go to Camden? Its sounds like the closest thing Jersey has to the Wild West except without the colorful characters. Actually Camden sounds relatively unpleasant in that shattered American empty concrete and bleak kind of way we all know so well.

CNN: Camden, N.J., to lose nearly half its cops
Struggling to close a $26.5 million budget gap, the city with the second highest crime rate in the nation is laying off 163 police officers. That's nearly 44% of the force.

I hate to say it, but Camden is the future for large swaths of America if present trends continue. The elites do not care if most of the country comes under the control of violent drug gangs, they welcome anarchy in the peasant zones. Soon they'll hunt the poor just like used to hunt wild animals.

Yes, urban blight is back. The strain of it seems worse than ever too. The elite are pleased to see the poor and close to poor devouring each other takes a whole lot of pressure of them.

Exactly! They love those scenes where the peons fight over the crumbs being tossed to them from the back of military trucks by armed guards. They don't fear the poor, because they're gated towns are well protected. Neo-feudalism is developing. Watch the 70's sci-fi kult klassix "ZARDOZ" for the evolving plot line. Sean Connery starred in it.

Who are the 'elite'? And they live in gated communities because they can afford it- mostly by working hard, getting an education and being successful. They live in the gated communities for safety. There is nothing wrong with that. In this country we overly demonize the wealthy.
