'Arc-en-ciel'

Pianist Giuseppe Andaloro plays György Ligeti's 5th etude for piano.

I am a huge fan of Ligeti's work. I realize the music is dense and not even remotely popular in sound. However, this is amazing music. I am presently reading through some of these etudes on piano. They are impossible to play, the skill level required to play them is extraordinary. For a long time I was convinced that the most important composer in the last 50 years was Phil Glass, or at least he is my favorite, but now I am wowed by Ligeti. His sound palette is completely unique and personal. That is a rare thing. Ligeti passed away in 2006 at age 83.
