Obama Challenges China On Censorship

You know its fine seeing Obama in China complaining about their media censorship. We support this activity.
On the other hand, it was just a few short years ago, that our media fell down on the job so badly that the country's democratic process turned down several notches from its already perilously weak position.
And now take a look at what we have. We have the weak and non threatening news in the major media outlets and the growing popularity of the blatantly stupid and absurd news in places like FOX.
If it weren't for some alternate online news outlets that do a small amount of investigative and analytical work along with the dozen or so journalists who do the same, we would be in the complete dark rather than in the present candlelight flicker.
McClatchy: Obama discusses censorship during Shanghai town hall
"I think that the more freely information flows, the stronger the society becomes, because then citizens of countries around the world can then hold their own governments accountable...I'm a big supporter of non-censorship."

News and entertainment. They exist in the same venues, compete against each other for market share.
Why not regulate the word "news"? We regulate food manufacturers. You can't call something chocolate unless it contains certain ingredients.
Do the same with "news"?
I'll think about that...
I'm thinking the problem here lies with the authority that determines what is news. In an ideal non partisan and openly democratic world it would be a fine definition. Under a tyrant driven by imperialism, war, and gathering in public wealth, the definition could become much more restricted.
